Dan Cohen, M.Ed.
Chief Performance Officer
Dan Cohen is the Chief Performance Officer (CPO) for Human Powered Health. As CPO, Dan is responsible for the overall direction and vision of Human Powered Health, the most advanced performance assessment platform, and its mission: to power human potential.
Previously, Dan spent 12 years at UnitedHealth Group where he held leadership positions within UnitedHealth Group Ventures, Rally Health, and Optum Research and Development, identifying, supporting, and managing products and startups. Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group in 2010, Dan was a fitness entrepreneur, founding several human performance companies. Dan was also a former professional triathlete, duathlete and performance coach.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Saint Mary’s University and a master’s degree in exercise science from the University of Minnesota. He lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with his wife, Katherine, and two aspiring athletes, Isla (7) and Clyde (5).

Performance Director
Before working at Human Powered Health, Therese worked as a researcher at the Bowerman Sports Science Center at the University of Oregon where she studied biomechanics and exercise physiology. This included tracking physiological measurements for Olympic athletes and validating a novel field fitness test.
During her master’s degree, she worked in the Laboratory of Integrative Human Physiology where she focused her research on longitudinal changes in Division I football player body composition over season and player age.
After graduate school, Therese worked at Optum Labs as a Senior Research Scientist designing, leading, and operating research studies across various domains of health care.

Performance Lab Operations Manager
Prior to Human Powered Health, Max studied kinesiology, with an emphasis in human performance, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Through his studies, he learned how to utilize specialized fitness equipment for obtaining highly personalized fitness data to inform next best action for athletes.
During his time at Eau Claire, he worked as an intern within the strength and conditioning and physical therapy settings, learning and applying best practices for coaching athletes and program design/implementation.
After achieving his bachelor’s degree, he developed an understanding of the business elements within the fitness industry through his position as Manager of Fitness Partnerships with Optum. He then transitioned to Optum Labs and worked as a Research Coordinator to lead studies aimed at identifying effective/efficient ways to improve the health and wellness of UnitedHealthcare’s members through exercise and health interventions.

Evan Strewler, M.S.
Head Performance Physiologist – Minnesota
Before working at Human Powered Health, Evan served as the Director of Healthy Living at The Marsh. During his 10-year tenure, Evan developed new programs such as a primer for downhill skiers, dynamic balance training, a Results by Design weight management program. He led a team of 10 experienced Exercise Specialists who provided personal training for clients ranging from healthy and agile, to those recovering from a joint replacement, undergoing chemotherapy, or working with a metabolic condition. He also oversaw multiple departments including Aquatics, Group Fitness, and Pilates.
Previously, Evan spent time as a Metabolic Specialist at Optum Health Performance, a Personal Training Director at LA Fitness, and a Strength Coach at Wayzata High School. He brings deep experience in aerobic testing, anaerobic power assessments, cardiovascular assessments, metabolic testing, and exercise prescription development. Evan holds a Master of Science degree in exercise physiology from the College of St. Scholastic in Duluth, Minnesota, and is a native of Superior, Wisconsin.
Our expert performance physiologists will design a set of assessments relevant to your specific performance goals, leveraging best in class biometric, metabolic, aerobic, anaerobic, and strength testing equipment. Your physiologist will generate a real-time athlete profile incorporating your assessment results to inform personalized performance recommendations.
