Measure What You Can’t See

A DXA Scan, sometimes called a “Dexa Scan,” is the most accurate way to measure body composition. By measuring bone density, muscle, and fat mass you get a detailed breakdown of what is going on inside of your body. It measures specific types of fat; subcutaneous and visceral, the latter being the fat specifically around your organs, which has health implications you’ll learn about in your consultation following the Scan. A DXA Scan also measures physical symmetry, monitoring any imbalances in muscle, fat and bone health.

How

A DXA Scan, or dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, is a quick and painless scan using low-dose X-ray beams. The scan itself takes upwards of 15 minutes. You lay down on the stationary scanning table while the arm of the machine moves and scans up and down your body. Following the Scan, you’ll have a 30 minute consultation with a Master’s-level performance physiologist about your unique results and how to improve them.

How often

Those monitoring their muscle and fat composition can benefit from DXA Scans every six months. Bone density can be checked annually for changes.
