Before working at Human Powered Health, Carson was a Performance Coach and Sport Scientist working with populations ranging from academy soccer players to professional combat sport athletes. He also lectured at South Mountain Community College, teaching topics surrounding exercise physiology, cardiovascular exercise, and resistance training.

During his master’s degree at Arizona State University, Carson conducted research with youth soccer players focused on the fatiguing influence of certain injury prevention exercises and the exploration of an alternative method for measuring neuromuscular fatigue through foot-based inertial measurement units.

In his free time, you can find Carson running and cycling the streets of the greater Phoenix area, helping professional fighters and Olympic wrestlers with their strength and conditioning, and spending time with his loved ones.

Alexa grew up on a cattle ranch in rural southern Colorado before trading country life for the big city in Fort Worth, Texas. She earned her Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and Sport Science from Texas Christian University. Throughout her career, Alexa has had the privilege of working with athletes across various sports, age groups, and competition levels, with a special passion for helping young, aspiring athletes. Her empathetic nature and dedication to education have made her a trusted ally, particularly for those striving to improve their health and performance.

Outside of work, Alexa enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her love of baking offers a perfect balance to her active lifestyle and often earns her new friendships. When she’s not cheering on the Denver Broncos or the Dallas Stars, you can find her coaching group fitness classes or working out herself.

Prior to working at Human Powered Health, Alyssa graduated from Concordia University with a degree in Kinesiology and an emphasis on Exercise Science.

She’s worked with a variety of sports medicine specialists and surgeons to support their clinics and scheduling. She is passionate about supportive roles not only in the workplace but in life. She is grateful for the opportunity to help individuals live longer, healthier lives.

Aaron is a long distance runner and competed at UW-Eau Claire in college while completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology. Before working at Human Powered Health, he worked as a personal trainer and metabolic technician at Life Time, specializing in weight loss and endurance athlete training. He competes in track and field and road races ranging from 1 mile to the marathon.

Aaron received his MS in Kinesiology with an Exercise Physiology emphasis from the University of Minnesota. During his time, he worked in the Human and Sport Performance Laboratory conducting metabolic assessments.

Dan Cohen is the Chief Performance Officer (CPO) for Human Powered Health. As CPO, Dan is responsible for the overall direction and vision of Human Powered Health, the most advanced performance assessment service, and its mission: to power health and human performance for everyone.

Previously, Dan spent 12 years at UnitedHealth Group where he held leadership positions within UnitedHealth Group Ventures, Rally Health, and Optum Research and Development, identifying, supporting and managing products and startups. Prior to joining UnitedHealth Group in 2010, Dan was a fitness entrepreneur, founding several human performance companies.

Dan is also a former professional triathlete, duathlete and performance coach.

Dan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Saint Mary’s University and a master’s degree in exercise science from the University of Minnesota. He lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with his wife Katherine and two aspiring athletes, Isla and Clyde.

Before working at Human Powered Health, Therese worked as a researcher at the Bowerman Sports Science Center at the University of Oregon where she studied biomechanics and exercise physiology. This included tracking physiological measurements for Olympic athletes and validating a novel field fitness test.

During her master’s degree, she worked in the Laboratory of Integrative Human Physiology where she focused her research on longitudinal changes in Division I football player body composition over season and player age.

After graduate school, Therese worked at Optum Labs as a Senior Research Scientist designing, leading and operating research studies across various domains of health care.

Prior to Human Powered Health, Alyssa was an Exercise Science professor, teaching at Simmons University, Lasell University and Columbia College. She taught classes that focused on the physiological impact exercise has on the body and organized labs that gave students hands-on experience with running fitness assessments such as VO2 max tests.

Alyssa received her PhD in Sports Performance and Physiology from East Tennessee State University. During her studies, she coached collegiate runners as well as professional runners. She collected strength and power data on these runners and eventually used the data to write her dissertation, which examined the effects of a strength training program on lower limb asymmetry.

While receiving her master’s degree at the University of South Carolina, Alyssa helped to organize and run research projects involving aerobic and anaerobic testing. After graduating with her bachelor’s, she became a Certified Exercise Physiologist through ACSM. Alyssa’s passion for exercise science and helping athletes stems from her lifelong passion for running. She was a Division I sprinter at the University of North Florida and continues to run for fun.

Before working at Human Powered Health, Rob worked as a Senior Clinical Exercise Physiologist at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. During his time, he was the lead physiologist on several studies and conducted testing on a range of populations. A few examples are former NFL athletes, people with Spinal Cord Injuries, geriatrics and those with or survivors of cancers. In addition, he was able to mentor and help sharpen multiple cohorts of interns’ skills.

Rob received his MS in Exercise Science: Strength & Conditioning from American International College. During his time, he was active on campus through being a member of the D1 Rugby team, a senior resident advisor and other extracurricular activities.

Before working at Human Powered Health, Evan worked as a health educator helping underserved and uninsured populations manage various types of chronic disease. Following that, he attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls receiving a Masters of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology while also conducting research on how cycling biomechanics changed through a bike fit affect power output for his thesis.

Through his obsession with understanding human physiology, he has become an avid trail runner trying to claim as many mountain peaks and ultra races that he can. His findings have lead to specialties and interests in everything endurance, and making sure others can achieve their goals as well.

Before joining Human Powered Health, Willie studied Biomedical Engineering at Boston University. During his time there, he researched the biomechanics of locomotion and the application of soft exosuit training in post-stroke neuromotor recovery.

After graduating, Willie spent the next few years pursuing his lifelong passion in cycling as a bicycle technician, providing maintenance and support to the Greater Boston area cycling community. Willie’s unique technical background in both cycling and biomechanics has naturally led him to a career in bike fitting, which has proven to be a perfect synthesis of his interests and expertise.

Before working at Human Powered Health, Evan served as the Director of Healthy Living at The Marsh. During his 10-year tenure, Evan developed new programs such as a primer for downhill skiers, dynamic balance training and a Results by Design weight management program. He led a team of 10 experienced Exercise Specialists who provided personal training for clients ranging from healthy and agile to those recovering from a joint replacement, undergoing chemotherapy or working with a metabolic condition. He also oversaw multiple departments including Aquatics, Group Fitness and Pilates.

Previously, Evan spent time as a Metabolic Specialist at Optum Health Performance, a Personal Training Director at LA Fitness and as a Strength Coach at Wayzata High School. He brings deep experience in aerobic testing, anaerobic power assessments, cardiovascular assessments, metabolic testing and exercise prescription development. Evan holds a Master of Science degree in exercise physiology from the College of St. Scholastic in Duluth, Minnesota, and is a native of Superior, Wisconsin.

Before working at Human Powered Health, Kelly worked as a weightlifting coach at a private facility. Kelly also has several years of collegiate athletic performance coach experience including the University of Minnesota, University of Kansas and Kentucky Wesleyan College. While working with college athletes, she used force plates and wearable tracking technology.

She earned her masters through A.T. Still University focusing on human performance, and her undergrad through University of Wisconsin Eau Claire while running track and field.  She was a 100 meter hurdler and short sprinter.  She and her husband Christian live in Burnsville with their son Christian Junior and their dog, Moo Cow.

Bjørn Selander is the Chief Bike Fit Engineer for Human Powered Health, responsible for ensuring that individuals are comfortably and ergonomically adjusted to their bicycles, enabling them to maximize their experience on the bike. His expertise in bike fitting originated from his professional racing career after having extensive interactions with many fit specialists focused on correcting his scoliosis. He later gained practice and developed his own approach to adjusting bikes while owning a bike shop in Afton, MN.

Before transitioning to bike fitting, Bjørn had a successful career as a professional cyclist, competing on notable teams such as Trek-Livestrong, RadioShack, and Rally Cycling – earning accolades such as winning the best young rider’s jersey at the Giro d’Italia in 2011.  His background as a professional cyclist provides him with a deep understanding of the importance of proper bike fit for performance.

In addition to contributing his work to Human Powered Health, Bjørn is involved in promoting cycling to his community. He assists his father as a coach with Minnesota Junior Cycling (MNJRC), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting youth cycling in the Twin Cities Metro. With the MNJRC, he helps organize and host bike races on an annual basis.

Bjorn resides in his hometown of Hudson, Wisconsin with his partner, Sarah. They stay extra busy adventuring with their high energy 5-year-old son, Kolbjorn. Bjorn‘s dedication to a proper fit and promoting all bodies on bicycles highlights his passion for THE SPORT OF A LIFETIME.
